Dream. Believe. Achieve.

Year 6

Year 6 are reading ‘Skellig’ by David Almond. It begins when a boy moves house  and finds something mysterious in his garage. The  story is about friendship, trust   and facing the challenges of life.

In English, we have begun writing a newspaper report based on our previous reading book ‘The Island’. We are writing our report for parents so when they are completed, they will be coming home for you to read.

In Science our topic has covered water transportation in humans: we have revised what we know about the circulatory system and the digestive system. Our focus has been the function of the kidneys and how they keep us healthy, highlighting the importance of drinking water in order for our internal organs to do the incredible job they do.

In Geography we are comparing places, firstly looking at the Lake District and the physical features and after half term, we will be studying Jamaica in the Caribbean and the Tatra mountains in Poland.

We have started our new History study on the Windrush Generation, focussing on how World War 2 affected Britain. We will be looking at why people from the Caribbean migrated to Britain and what life was like for them.

Remember to read every day at home for 15 minutes and keep practising times table facts and the Years 5 and 6 Spelling List in planners.

Keep up the great work Year 6.  You have worked hard in preparation for SATs – almost there!!
