WellComm is a Speech and Language Toolkit for Screening and Intervention in the Early Years. Every child in Nursery and Reception is assessed using WellComm which helps to support staff to identify children with potential language difficulties.

Children are screened at the section they should be working at for their age. Children are then given a colour code based on their score – red, amber or green. For children that score a red or an amber, the screening process is repeated from the age bands/sections below until they achieve a green score. This provides staff with an immediate SLCN profile and interventions can take place straight away.

Children that score a red for their age section and the section below, may require a referral to the Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service.
