When children come off the Read, Write Inc phonics programme (generally by the end of year 2), the children can choose their own books using our Accelerated Reader programme. This programme assesses each child’s reading ability and generates, for them, a ZPD range. The children can then choose a home reading book that falls within their ZPD range. Once they have read their book, the children can take a quiz to assess their understanding of what they have read.
